Jordanian filmmaker, Amin Matalqa, spent almost half his life stuck in Ohio. After a successful business career in the telecommunications industry, he decided to pursue his childhood dream and start over by moving to Los Angeles and making short films while writing feature screenplays and attending the Directing MFA program at the American Film Institute. Four years and 25 short films later, Amin brought together a cast and crew of over 200 people to make his first feature film, Captain Abu Raed, which is in competition at the Sundance Film Festival and has just won Best Actor award for Nadim Sawalha at the Dubai International Film Festival. With a knack for blending drama, comedy, and suspense, Amin plans to continue making both American and Arabic feature films while living in Los Angeles with his two dogs, Cello and Oboe.
